If i will be asked to mention just one thing that i am grateful for in my profession, it would be the opportunity to witness love stories and be reminded of my own. A certified hopeless romantic that i am, i'm the one who cries uncontrollably at romance movies and weeps without a care in public when reading heartbreaking novels. Yes, i am incurable at that.
This is why hosting weddings is just perfect for me. Isn't God just amazing? For Him to put me in a place where i can be inspired and be in-love all over again, is something that i will always be grateful for. It's like having VIP access and a front row seat to a great masterpiece. For it is truly that. A love story written by the greatest matchmaker of all.
Hosting weddings takes me back to a time when i was a giddy twenty-something girl dreaming and planning my own wedding. I was a young bride. While my friends and batchmates were busy climbing the ladder of success, i was already taking a couple of steps down that ladder. Putting my demanding career on broadcast journalism on hold to be what the heroine in my favorite romance novels are. The girl who walks down the aisle to meet the man of her dreams.
But just like in books and movies, the plot don't always stay sweet. The excitement of the wedding day will subside and cloud nine will eventually take you back to earth.
And that's when "remembering" should start to happen. To remember is something that all couples, newlyweds, married for a long time, those still planning to get married should master. It took me a while before i realized the importance of this. And i thank God for bringing me to the wonderful world of weddings so i can finally understand what it really means to share your life with someone.
Remember.
In times of hurt, doubt, worry and anger ( Yes, they will come), remember that time when you first saw each other. Look back and remember how time stood still as you first held hands. Close your eyes and let the memory of your first kiss take you back to that time when it felt like the ground shook and you just didn't care for fear of losing that magical moment. Try your hardest to remember how it felt when you first said the words, "I love you".
Let's see if you will not fall in love again :)
And when your little nest starts getting bigger, with little ones to raise and obligations to fulfill, remember the excitement of planning for your future. Remember how you fervently hoped and prayed. How you waited expectantly.
When conflicts arise ( for sure there will be), remember what you loved most about each other. Remember how each other's imperfection made you want to love and protect each other more.
Don't stop making memories. Everyday is a gift. To wake up each day with the love of your life is an added bonus. For every new memory you make, there will always be something more added to your treasure chest of keepsakes to remember.
All it takes is a step back in time.
Do not ever forget.
Remember:)
